December Postings 2020

Merry Christmas to all my friends and visitors

This website runs on the time zone of Kiritimati. In case you do not know where Kiritimati is, it is a coral atoll and is part of the Republic of Kiribati. Kiribati has a small population of just under 124,000 people. The Republic of Kiribati was once ruled by the United Kingdom and independence was granted on 12/07/1979. The country comprises 32 atolls and has a total land area of 811 square kilometers. Kiribati was once known as the Gilbert Islands and was named by a British Captain Thomas Gilbert, who sighted the islands in 1788. Kiribati is located almost half way between Hawaii and Fiji, and Kiritimati is situated south of Hawaii. The distance between Hawaii and Kiritimati is about 2000 kilometers. Imagine that Kiritimati is further east than Samoa or Cook Islands. Prior to independence, Kiritimati was called Christmas Island Pacific Ocean. Kiribati does not have its own currency but uses Australia banknotes instead.

1st December 2020
Namibia - $30 polymer commemorative note issued on 21/03/2020 celebrating the country's 30 years of independence 1990-2020.

4th December 2020
Fiji - Two commemorative specimen notes of $2 and $2000 both issued in 2000 celebrating the millennium year 2000. The $2000 is a large size banknote.

7th December 2020
European Union - Here are the two 100 euro Hybrid notes both printed with the year date of 2019 which I have added to my previous post. These notes were printed for Slovakia (Letter E) and Italy (Letter S). I believe only six of these are issued, unless they are more that I am not aware of. All my six notes came from a very good collector friend in Europe. All these notes were 'almost' hand delivered to me from Europe. Whilst these are not rare, it is good to have them in a full set. Thank you MJ!

11th December 2020
Saudi Arabia - A 20 riyals commemorative banknote issued on 25/10/2020. This note celebrates Saudi Arabia's presidency for hosting the G20 Summit in Riyadh, the capital city on 21-22 of November 2020. To some people, the design on the back of this note may not be correct and may even consider it as an error note.

16th December 2020
Fiji - Another set of Queen Elizabeth the Second (portrait) specimen notes series issued in (nd)2002. This set comprises 5 notes from $2 to $50. The governor's signature on these notes were signed by Savenaca Narube.

20th December 2020
Australia - $20 nd2019. I have added the $20 nd2019 with the signatures of Philip Lowe (Governor) and John Arthur Fraser (Secretary To The Treasury) to my previous post of the $20 with the signatures of Philip Lowe and Philip Gaetjens. The variety of Lowe/Fraser caught many collectors by surprise. I have been told that this variety was first discovered in early January 2020. However many of these notes popped up recently for sale. Both varieties were printed with AA19 as first prefix and EA19 as the last prefix. I am not sure why the central bank has printed two varieties in a give year, especially the tenure for John Fraser ended on 31/07/2018. It looks like they printed the new $20 when John Fraser was still employed by the Treasury. The last time they did that was the governors changed over in 1996 for the $5 notes.

24th December 2020 Merry Christmas
Vanuatu - A 1000 vatu polymer commemorative folder note issued on 23/07/2020 celebrating the  country's 40th independence from the British and French (1980-2020). A thousand of these notes were sold in a folder with serial numbers ranging from #1 to #1000.

My year end total collection of banknotes, excluding duplicates, are 5747 pieces and still counting...

November Postings 2020

November

1st November 2020
Vanuatu - This is a 1000 vatu commemorative polymer banknote issued for the celebration of the country's 40th Anniversary of Independence, 1980-2020. This note was released on 23/07/2020. This is the only note printed for this occasion.

2nd November 2020
Cooper is 4 years old today. Happy birthday Coop!

4th November 2020
Indonesia - This is a 75000 rupiah commemorative note released on 17/08/2020 celebrating the 75th year of the declaration of Independence from foreign occupations.
Update 06/11/2020 - I have added additional information regarding commemorative notes issued by Indonesia. If you have any comments on this, please feel free to post this under the post as I would like to know the answer too.

10th November 2020
Fiji - This is the latest $50 polymer commemorative note released on 08/10/2020 celebrating the country's Golden Jubilee of Independence 1970-2020. This is the only banknote issued for this special occasion. In addition to this a 50 cent coin was also released for the celebration too.

14th November 2020
Fiji - Another full set of specimen notes issued between 1995 and 1996. This set comprises 5 notes from $2 to $50.

19th November 2020
Poland - This is the 12th Polish commemorative banknote issued since 2006. This 20 zloty note was released on 11/08/2020 and is printed on paper material and not polymer like the last issue of 19 zloty in 2019 celebrating the 100th Year of Polish Security Printing Works.

25th November 2020
Bangladesh - Three specimen notes of low denominations, all dated 2018. These are cheap notes too.

27th November 2020
Iran - 50000 rials. This is a reprint commemorative note celebrating the University of Tehran 80th Anniversary. I believe this note was released in 2019. The design of this note is the same as the first print released in 2015 but with different signatures.

1st October 2020
Isle of Man - This is the most recent £10 note printed with the signature of the then Chief Financial Officer's signature of Sheila NL Lowe. This note was released on 30.12.2019 and as such should be dated nd2019, and not nd2020 as some reported. If anyone knows what the 'NL' initials stand for, please let me know. Thanks

4th October 2020
The United States of America - This is the one and only USA web note I have in my collection. I believe few collectors outside the USA may not know what a web note is or be able to tell the difference between the two. The Federal Reserve of the United States printed web notes in 1988, 1993 and 1995. Unfortunately this was short lived due to a high percentage of errors occurring from the printing process. So what is a web note and how can you tell the difference between these two? Click onto the link and find out more. Who knows, you might already have one or even more in your own collection. Good luck.

5th October 2020
Nepal - An odd note of 5 rupees dated 2017 from Nepal. This is a very cheap note to collect.

10th October 2020
Vietnam - Four polymer notes of 2010 issue. I have basically stopped buying Vietnamese polymer notes now as they are all the same except the (nd) year date printed.

13th October 2020
Fiji - Another specimen note of $10 issued in 1992. Three notes were issued in 1992 this series, however I only have this piece in my collection.

17th October 2020
Iran - An odd note of 10,000 rials issued in 2017(nd).

22nd October 2020
Papua New Guinea - This is an update on my previous post. Here I have added the 100 kina polymer printed with (nd)2014. Only three notes were issued with this year date. The parliament building series has changed very little since the first 50 kina was introduced in 1989. The parliament building series was fully completed in 2008 when the last two notes of 5 and 20 kina were issued.

September Postings 2020

September

1st September 2020
Dominican Republic - After waiting for 20 years, I finally managed to get this commemorative note for my collection. Whilst I do not believe this note is rare, the selling price for this note was way too expensive to me and for that reason, I have not bought it earlier. With this note, I now almost have a complete collection of all banknotes issued in 2000 celebrating the new millennium. Some people said that technically the new millennium should be celebrated in 2001 and not 2000. Well, who am I here to argue with? Interesting fact is that not a single country in South America or in Africa had issued a new banknote celebrating the new millennium in 2000.

4th September 2020
Great Britain - This is the latest £20 polymer note issued by the Bank of England, released on 20.02.2020. This is the third note of the polymer series, first issued in 2016. Banknotes issued by the Bank of England are also legal tender in both Scotland and Northern Ireland, in addition to those banknotes issued by the commercial banks. The auction house, Spink also auctioned off 267 pieces of AA01 (first prefix) of this new £20 notes. I have also detailed some of prices realised on my post. Feel free to check this out.

9th September 2020
Fiji - Here is a full set of the 1974 specimen series first reprints. This set consists of 6 notes from 50 cents to $20. The $20 was the largest denomination at the time. It is not sure when these notes were issued but if I have to guess, it would be between 1975 to 1976. The interesting fact about this issue is that the 50 cents note was not released into circulation. With the specimen note for the 50 cents printed, one would also assume that the authority had also printed the circulating notes too. I wonder if they have destroyed all these printed 50 cents notes. The specimen note is the only way to get this note. If you have the 50 cents circulating note, then you are a very lucky person.

15th September 2020
Fiji - Another full set of specimen notes from $ 2 to $20. It is not sure when these normal circulating notes were issued, but I believe it was between 1977 to 1980. More to come.

21st September 2020
Fiji - Another set of five specimen notes issued in 1980 with the signatures of David J Barnes & H J Tomkins. The denominations of these notes are $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20, all have four cancelled hole punches. If anyone knows the initials of HJ Tomkins, please let me know. All I know was that he was seconded from the Bank of England all I can say is that he was from Great Britain. More specimens to come too.

24th September 2020
Fiji - Another specimen set of 4 notes. These are the only four normal notes issued between 1989 to 1991 for public circulations. The first three notes were issued in 1989 and the last note of $10 was issued in 1991. This is also the last series of the $1 note. The $20 piece was not included in this series.

27th September 2020
Yemen Arab Republic - An odd note of 20 rials from the 1990 to 1997 series. A full set consists of 9 notes from 10 to 500 rials. This is the best I can do at the moment.

1st August 2020
Fiji - Three specimen notes of the 1974 series all signed by David J Barnes and Ian A Craik. A complete set would consists of $2, $5, $10 and $20. Both the 50 cents and the $1 note were not issued for this series.

4th August 2020
East Caribbean States - These are the latest 4 notes all printed on polymer materials. This set is still missing the $5 piece which is yet to be issued. It is expected that the $5 note is to be released sometime in October this year.

12th August 2020
European Union - I have posted 2 x 10 euro with the letter prefixes of S (Italy) and T (Ireland). These notes are dated 2014 and unfortunately these are the only two notes I have for this series.

14th August 2020
The United States of America - Two $100 notes of series 2009A.

15th August 2020
To all my friends and visitors, I just realised that I have a long list of comments posted on my sites which I was not aware of. I used to receive emails notification for all comments posted so that I can avoid those unrelated spams. I am not sure why this has happened. I have now updated my website and approved all the comments posted. Some of these comments were 3 years old and I apologise for the delay. I usually check the comment posted through email notification and if the topic is related to this hobby, I would approve it immediately. Once again, I apologise for the delay. I always say that all comments are welcome unless it is spams or topics not related to the collection. Please keep posting your comments here. Over the next day or two, I will try to post a reply on all of them. Happy collecting!

16th August 2020
I have now replied to all comments posted since 2018. Once again, apology for my oversight.
19th August 2020
Trinidad and Tobago - This is the latest $100 polymer banknote circulating in the country. This note is printed with the year series of 2019. The central bank has also recently announced the remaining of the 2019 series which will all be printed on polymer substrates too.

27th August 2020
Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) - Posted here are 3 notes issued by the Japanese Army occupied the then Dutch East Indies between 1942 to 1945 and during its occupation, they issued two series of banknotes. Here are the 3 notes that I have, all issued in 1944.

July Postings 2020

July

1st July 2020
European Union - Here are the 4 out of the six 100 euro hybrid notes issued all printed with the year date of 2019. I am still missing the S (Italy) and E (Slovakia) prints. These 4 notes came from a very good collector friend in Slovakia. Thank you mate. You know who you are. I won't mention your name here to protect your privacy.

4th July 2020
Isle of Man - A £20 note with the signature of Peter Mark Shimmin, who was the Bank's Chief Financial Officer from 2001 to 2013. Five notes were issued with his signature during his tenure with the bank, however this is the only note that has the bank's name "Limited" printed and on the back, the imprinter's name has also changed to ''De La Rue" only.

12th July 2020
United States of America - An odd note of $50 dated 2009 issued by the Federal Reserve of New York.

19th July 2020
Fiji - Three specimen notes of $1, $5 and $20 issued in 1969/1970.

22nd July 2020
Kuwait - full set L1968 issued prior to the first Gulf war (1990-1991). Following the end of the Iraqi invasion, the Kuwaiti government demonetised all these notes, thus making these currencies worthless. Unfortunately, this set I have are not all in uncirculated condition, despite the seller claimed it was.

26th July 2020
Sierra Leone - 1980 the Organisation of African Union (OAU) Conference commemorative notes. Unfortunately I am still missing one note from this series.

27th July 2020
Yemen Arab Republic - A single note of 20 rials issued in 1985.

June Postings 2020

June

1st June 2020
Oman - This is the first reprint of the 2010 50 rials Hybrid commemorative (Oman 40th National Day celebration) hybrid note. This note was issued in 2019 with some changes to the first print designs. Whilst the 2010 was a commemorative note, this reprint, in my opinion, should not be. However, in view of the commemorative text still printed on the note, I have also posted this note to my Commemorative site too. The 50 rials denomination is still the largest denomination issued in Oman. With a new Sultan installed in early January 2020 following the passing of Sultan Qaboos (b.1940-2020), any new issues is expected to have a portrait of the new Sultan on the note. Perhaps we might even see a new 1 rial banknote next year celebrating the first anniversary of the new Sultan or another 50 rials celebrating Oman's 50th National Day (1970-2020) or even both.

4th June 2020
Scotland, Clydesdale Bank Limited - Posted here is the new £20 polymer note issued on 27.02.2020. This note is printed with the date of 11.07.2019 and bears the signature of the CEO, David Joseph Duffy. Like those previously polymer notes issued, the first prefix for this series is W/HS.

7th June 2020
Scotland, Bank of Scotland Limited - New £20 polymer normal note series issued on 27.02.2020. The first prefix for this series is AA. It appears that no replacement prefix has been printed, or at least none reported so far.

9th June 2020
Scotland, Bank of Scotland Limited - New £20 polymer commemorative note issued on the same day (27.02.2020) as the normal circulating polymer note. Only two prefixes of QC and QF issued and presumably 2 million pieces placed into circulation.

13th June 2020
Scotland, The Royal Bank of Scotland Limited - This is the fourth and final new £20 polymer note issued by a commercial bank in Scotland. This note was released on 05.03.2020 and is printed with the date of 27.05.2019.

26th June 2020
Scotland, Bank of Scotland Limited - Here is the Bank of Scotland £20 presentation pack first released on 10.30.2020. The pack consists of two polymer notes, one from the general issue and one from the commemorative note.

27th June 2020
Northern Ireland, Bank of Ireland Limited - I have added the £5 polymer note with AA first prefix first issued on 27.02.2019 to my previous posts.

28th June 2020
Northern Ireland, Ulster Bank Limited - I have added the £10 polymer note issued on 27.02.2019 printed with AA first prefix.

May Postings 2020

Message: Bank of England polymer error notes. My dear visitors, if you have recently bought any of the polymer error notes, I would like to hear from you. Please do contact me. Thanks

1st May 2020
Cayman Islands - $1 commemorative note issued, celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the First Constitution and the granting of the Coat of Arms by Queen Elizabeth ll. The design of this note is the same as those last issued but with the logo added on and a new signature.

6th May 2020
Albania - 200 leke polymer note dated 2017. This is the new series and this note was released on 30.09.2019. The new series will consist of 6 notes to be issued progressively. To date only the 200 and 5000 leke have been issued. The 200 leke is the only polymer note in the new series and here I have only posted this 200 leke polymer note.

8th May 2020
Nigeria - A set of 2019 polymer notes from 5 to 50 naira (4 notes). These are cheap notes and are very affordable to collect.

10th May 2020
The United States of America - Here I have posted 3 notes all dated 1934. These are Silver Certificate printed with a Blue seal and they were acquired via normal circulation in the USA. As you will see, they are all heavily circulated. These notes are still legal tender in the United States.

16th May 2020
Isle of Man - Two notes of £20 and £10 issued in 2002 and 2012 respectively and both signed by Peter Mark Shimmin. These are the two notes issued with Shimmin's signature that have been printed without the word "Limited" after the name of the Bank, Bank of Isle of Man, and the name of the imprinter on the back is printed with just "De La Rue".

20th May 2020
Fiji - Odd note of $1 issued in 1969 with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth the Second.

End of Ramadan (23rd May 2020)

25th May 2020

28th May 2020
Samoa - Just added the T$10 XVI Pacific Games 2019 commemorative polymer note folder front cover to my original post.

31st May 2020
Qatar - I have added the two notes of 50 and 100 riyals nd2003 to my previous post. To complete this set, I will need the 500 riyals which I do not have and will be very expensive to get one too. The State of Qatar is governed by a monarch, however like those banknotes issued in Kuwait or the United Arab Emirates, none of the notes are printed with any of it's royal family members. Banknotes issued by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan and Oman are all printed with the Emir or King on their banknotes.

April Postings 2020

April

1st April, 2020
Zimbabwe - The Land of Funny Money. These are the two latest $2 and $5 notes issued in late 2019, replacing those Bond Notes issued in 2016. The words Bond Note have been omitted from the design on these two new notes. According to some sellers, these are also printed on Hybrid material. I have no confirmation on this and if any readers can confirm this would be great. It has also been reported that the bank will issue other larger notes at a later date.

6th April 2020
Scotland, The Royal Bank of Scotland - This is a £20 paper note printed with the date of 04.04.2017. I believe this is the last paper banknote print for the £20 series, given that this denomination has now replaced by a polymer note issued recently by the bank. The signature on this note belongs to Ross Maxwell McEwan who has since left the bank.

8th April 2020
Transnistria - One ruble commemorative issued on 20.12.2019. This note was issued celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Transnistrian Ruble currency (1994-2019).

Happy Easter to all my friends and visitors. Please be safe and be sane too

15th April 2020
Zimbabwe - I have added the two notes of $2 and $5 Bond Notes, first issued in 2016. I believe these are from a difference imprinter as the font on the serial numbers are not the same from the first issues, especially the numbers like 0, 6 and 9.

22nd April 2020
New Zealand - $50 ND2018 polymer note with the Governor's signature of Adrian Orr.

Beginning of Ramadan (23rd April 2020)

25th April 2020

20th March 2020
Solomon Islands - I have added the $100 Hybrid note presumably issued in 2019 (or 2017). I believe the first prefix for this series is A/6 and here I have posted the scan with prefixes of A/7 and X/1. The signatures on these notes belong to Governor Denton Hehenoro Rarawa and Harry Kuma.

24th April 2020
Northern Ireland, Ulster Bank - £20 note dated 2018. I believe this is the last £20 paper note printed before the new £20 polymer to be issued in few months time. The signature on this note belongs to Ross McEwan. In addition to the Ulster Bank, his signature also appeared on those banknotes issued by The Royal Bank of Scotland. Ross McEwan is no longer an employee of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group.

January

កម្ពុជាCambodia - 15,000 riels commemorative hybrid note, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Coronation of King Norodom Sihamoni 2004-2019. This is one unique denomination but it is purposely done for this auspicious occasion. It is also good to see that this note is printed on a Hybrid material too.

"Wishing all my friends and visitors a very Happy New Year, Good Health and most of all plenty more new and uncirculated banknotes adding to your collections."

Polska/Poland - a commemorative note of 19 zloty Hybrid note celebrating the 100th year of the Polish Security Printing Works (PWPW). A total of 55,000 sets issued in a simple folder at an issue price of 80 zloty per set. This is the 11th commemorative note issued in Poland since 2006. Whilst the quantity printed is not small, the current asking price for this note is a bit high in my opinion.

Nicaragua - two polymer notes of 500 and 1000 cardobas both issued on 08.07.2019. With these two notes, the central bank has now successfully converted all it's banknotes from paper to polymer.

الامارات العربية المتحدةUnited Arab Emirates - a commemorative note of 100 dirhams celebrating 2018 Year of Zayed. This note was delayed in releasing for few months before it was issued in 2019. I believe this is the first time that a commemorative note been issued by the UAE since it's inception in the early 70s.

Norge/Norway - 1000 kroner Series Vlll dated 2019. The designs of this Series Vlll on the back for all denominations are a bit unusual or perhaps unique. I now have a complete set of this new series from 50 to 1000 kroner in my collection.

Solomon Islands - I have added an image of the folder printed for the $5 polymer note issued on 02.09.2019 to coincide with the commemorating of the United Nations World Tuna Day. This folder is sold without the note. I am not sure how many have been printed but given that they are not that expensive to buy one, it must be a lot. I have only added the scan of the front of the folder.
