December Postings 2022

December 2022

End of Year Stock taking - 6126 notes

1st December 2022

Cambodia - Here are the two specimen notes of 1000 and 5000 riels. These two notes are printed with the year dates of 2016 and 2015 respectively. Both notes were released on the same day on 25.10.2017, to coincide with the third anniversary of the coronation of King Norodom Sihamoni.

3rd December 2022

Qatar - This is a 22 riyals polymer commemorative note issued on 09.11.2022, celebrating the 22nd FIFA World Cup final in Qatar from 21.11.2022 to 19.12.2022. And the champion is ........!

10th December 2022

Poland - A full set of nine notes not issued and all printed with the date of 01.03.1990. These notes were printed due to the currency reform, and were meant to be issued in the early 1990s, but was later cancelled in 1994, mainly due to poor design of the series, and also partly due to the unstable of the Polish economy at that time. These notes were put together by the Bank in a very nice booklet presentation folder with information about this issue in both Polish and English. If you are a series collector, this numismatic item should not be missed, in my opinion.

16th December 2022

Tonga - This is the second reprint of the 50 pa'ange Hybrid note and is believed it was released in (nd)2020. This reprinted note has two new signatures as compared to the previous nd2018 issue. There are no change to the design on this note except the two new signatures. It is not sure if other notes are also issued since the series was first introduced in 2015. Needless to say, the 50 pa'ange must be a very popular denomination circulating in the nation.

18th October 2022

Philippines - A full set of five notes, from 50 to 1000 piso all printed with the year date of 2020. The 1000 piso has since been replaced by the polymer note released in 2022.

25th December 2022 (Merry Christmas)

Comoros - Here are the two notes of 500 and 1000 francs both issued in (nd)2020. These two notes were reportedly printed on Hybrid material.

29th December 2022

United Arab Emirates - Two polymer notes of 5 and 10 dihrams released in April 2022. This is a new series of banknotes, with the first note released in December 2021. This is the third series of banknotes issued since 1973. It is believed that the entire new series will be printed on polymer substrate materials.

November Postings 2022

 November 2022

1st November 2022

Hong Kong, Bank of China - Here is the $20 commemorative note released early this year, celebrating 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics game. I have this note for quite awhile, and was hoping to get all three prefixes issued. Unfortunately, I am still missing the AB note.

2nd November 2022

Solomon Islands - I have added the $2 specimen note with prefix C/2 nd2006 to my previous post. This note completes my collection for this series. This is a full set of six notes bearing the signatures of Rick N Houenipwela and Shadrach Timothy Fanega, and these notes were issued from 2005 to 2009. I have more Solomon Islands specimen notes to come.

4th November 2022

Fiji - This is a numismatic Lucky Money note of F$0.88 cents that was released on the 08.08.2022 (an auspicious date). This issue was a joint-venture with an entrepreneur in China with the main purpose of targeting the Chinese market. As the face value is nominal, it is a legal tender banknote but sold with a 'humongous' premium. No doubt, no one will in the right mind cashing it in at face value any sooner. Never, in all the years that I have been collecting banknotes that I have seen a central bank agreed to release a nominal numismatic banknote, with the bulk of which are distributed by another party not residing in the country. It was reported that a total of 3.6 million notes printed, and only 10,000 pieces are released in Fiji. The rest is managed by the another party in China. It is not sure if those issued in Fiji are included in the 3.6 million pieces or these are extra. Obviously, as a collector, we are always welcome such issue. I have also added this note to my commemorative section, even this is not a commemorative issue.

12th November 2022

Jersey - Here are the latest two notes from Jersey that was printed or released in 2018, bearing the signature for the Treasurer of the States, Richard W Bell. I have no information what Richard Bell's initial W stands for. Since the current series was first introduced in 2010, these are the first reprint for these 2 denominations. I am surprised that the reprint included the £50 as for the previous series, this denomination lasted for 17 years until the current series was introduced in 2010. Perhaps, holding cash is still the best option than credit card, like they always said - Cash is King! I also noted that both the 2010 and 2018 prints both have the prefix of AD. My guest is that perhaps only say 300,000 pieces were printed for the initial series. Jersey has a rather small population of just over 170,000+, and it is expected that any banknotes printed would usually last a while, and when the English pounds are also acceptable as legit currency on the island, one would expect that every Jersey denominations would have a longer life cycle than expected, except for the £1 note.

18th November 2022

Nagorno-Karabakh Republic - These are the two specimen notes of 2 and 10 drams 2004, all printed with zero numbers.

27th November 2022

Solomon Islands - I have now added another specimen note of $50 issued nd2017. For this series with the signature of Denton Hehenoro Rarawa & Harry Kuma, only four notes were issued, and I have excluded the $5 polymer series which was released in nd2019. The four notes are $10, $20, $50 and $100. All were issued in nd2017, with the exception of the $100, which was released in 2015. Both the $50 and $100 notes are printed on hybrid material. Of the four specimen notes, the $50 is the only specimen note that is printed with the tiny control number in the bottom left corner. The remaining three notes do not have such numbers.

October Posting 2022

October

Quote from Forrest Gump - "Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get
(then read the prints on the packaging first before you eat!)

1st October 2022

Poland - This is the latest Polish numismatic note of 20 zlotych released on 19.07.2022. I am not sure if this is considered as a commemorative note, and if so, what are they celebrating? According to the simple card folder that came with this banknote, it is stated that this is a Collector's note, and therefore is a numismatic product, and not for general circulating. Anyway, as I did not set up a specific Numismatic site for such note, I have also posted this note to my Commemorative Notes site as well. It is good to see the National Bank of Poland keeps us entertaining, especially so many countries in Europe have adopted the Euro system. For those countries maintaining these own nationals currency, please keep going, as we all know that we are about to lose another one to the Euro - Croatia.

4th October 2022

The United States of America - Here are the two notes of $1 and $2, issued both in a folder as numismatic commemorative products, celebrating the millennium year in 2000. The two notes that put together were the last prints before the year 2000. Whilst neither of the notes are printed with the year dated of 2000, both the serial numbers printed on the notes commenced with 2000. I believed that the Federal Reserve System have also sold them in a complete set of 12 notes, with one note each from all 12 Federal Reserve Bank. Won't it be nice to have a full set? Technically, I can say that I now have all the Millennium banknotes in my collection.

8th October 2022

New Hebrides  - Posted here are two notes of 500 and 1000 francs, I believe these are the last prints before the country gained independent from the French and British in 1980. I believe these are the only two notes that were printed with these signatures combination.

9th October 2022

Bangladesh - Unlike most commemorative notes issued, this note was released for the opening ceremony of a newly built bridge. This note was released on 25.06.2022, celebrating the opening ceremony of the Padma Bridge. A total of 10 million pieces were issued in singles, as well as in an envelope, and also in an envelope plus folder and sold for 150 taka and 200 taka respectively.

14th October 2022

Solomon Islands - I have added the $5 specimen note to my previous ND1996 specimen series post that posted on 10.04.2021. With this note added, I now have the complete specimen notes issued for this series.

19th October 2022

Cambodia - A commemorative note of 2000 riels with overprint, celebrating the country's 60th year of establishment of diplomatic relations between Cambodia and China 1958-2018. Was this note outsourced to a third party as a business joint-venture? If you know the answer, please fee free to post your comments here.

22nd October 2022

Solomon islands - I have added another specimen note of $50 to my previous post to complete my collection for this specimen series. This is the nd2008/2009 series bearing the signatures of the Governor Rick Houenipwela and the Finance Secretary Gordon Darcy Lilo. Only four notes were issued, and the remaining two notes of $2 and $20 were not released. Collecting them in full set is always more enjoyable than just having odd notes.

29th October 2020

Solomon Islands - I have now added the $5 specimen note nd2011 to my original posting of 29.05.2021. This is the last specimen note, which complete my collection for this series with the signatures of Denton Hehenoro Rarawa and Shadrach Timothy Fanega. the denomination for the $50 for this series was not issued.

September Postings 2022

September 2022
Bienvenidas

* End of an Era - Queen Elizabeth the Second 1926-2022 EllR*

1st September 2022
Hutt River Province (Australia) - A Full set of five notes, reportedly issued in 1974, with denominations of 10, 20, 50 cents, $1 and $2. These notes were once 'legal tender' at Hunt River Province between 1974 to early 2020. Since this self-proclaimed micronation closed its door in August 2020, these notes are now truly collectibles, and the interesting part is that this Hutt River Province managed to survive for 50 years, until the global pandemic brought them down!

4th September 2022
Jersey - A £10 note bearing the signature of Laura Rowley. This is a reprint of the 2010 series. Laura Rowley took over the Treasurer role on 01.11.2010, following the resignation of Ian Black due to poor health. Laura Rowley left the Treasury on 14.07.2014, and was replaced by Richard W Bell. During her tenure as the Treasurer of Jersey, two notes were issued with here signature on it. The other note was the 2012 100 pounds released celebrating Queen Elizabeth the Second's Diamond Jubilee.

7th September 2022
Solomon Islands - I have added the $2 Specimen note nd1997 to my previous posting. I am still missing the $5 specimen piece to complete this Specimen series. Only five notes were issued for this series.

12th September 2022
Laos - A full set of 6 notes released between 1962 and 1963. I have most of these notes for more than 20 years, and recently I acquired one last note to complete this series. However, the signatures for this series are not the same, but at least I have one note each for the series.

16th September 2022
Laos - This is a 1000 kip dated 2008, and the only issued note with this year date. This note is unique as it was claimed that this note was withdrawn from circulation because of the design on the front of the note. I have no confirmation on this, and if you wonder, there are plenty in the market at a very affordable price.

19th September 2022 - In memory of the late Queen Elizabeth The Second 1926 - 2022
Gibraltar - Today is the funeral procession of the late Queen Elizabeth the Second, who passed away on 08.09.2022, at the age of 96. Here I have posted a £10 note dated 2016 note, to commemorate her life as a Queen. This is a reprint of the current series first introduced in 2010. Since the passing of the Queen, it has been reported that plans are under way to redesign and to replace the portrait of the Queen with the image of the new King, Charles The lll. It was also mentioned that some may even consider removing the image of the monarch from their new design of notes too. For Australia, new coins with the bust of King Charles the lll are expected to be minted and released sometimes next year 2023, and planning is underway to replace the current $5 note with his portrait too. No doubt, going forward for the next few years or so, we will expect to see new notes with King Charles The lll for the United Kingdom (Bank of England), as well as for those British Overseas Territories too. Nation/Territorise that currently have the British monarch on their banknotes are the Bahamas, Belize, Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Guernsey, Jersey, Gibraltar, Isle of Man, New Zealand, and Saint Helena.

25th September 2022
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic - Posted are the two and only notes issued in 2004 for the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh region in Azerbaijan. These two are large size notes, and I am wondering if they are still releasing them. The face values for these two notes are nominal, and I was told that they were released more of a souvenir notes, rather than for circulation. It is not sure if they were negotiable back in 2004 when it was released. I believe the entire project was carried out by someone who was then based in New York in the United States of America.

28th September 2022
Libya - I have added the commemorative note of 20 dinars first print that was issued in 2002, to my previous post. This note was issued commemorating the Organisation of African Unity meeting in Sirte (known as the Sirte Declaration), on the 8th and 9th of September 1999 in Libya. The designs on these two notes are the same, except the signatures. It took me awhile to get this note to add to my commemorative collections.

August Postings 2022

 August 2022
(स्वागत हे)

1st August 2022
Northern Ireland, Ulster Bank - This is the latest of the polymer note for 50 pounds issued by the Ulster Bank of Norther Ireland. This note was released on 15.06.2022 and is dated 01.03.2021. In Northern Ireland, the Ulster Bank is the only bank has issued a 50 pounds polymer note so far. It is not sure if the other two commercial banks, namely Bank of Ireland and Danske Bank will follow suit later. I have been told that banknotes higher than the 20 pounds values are not popular, and given that those banknotes issued by the Bank of England are also circulating in Northern Ireland, there are no shortage of money circulating in that part of the world. However, despite saying this, the Ulster Bank had issued the 100 pounds notes in the past, it would be interesting to see if we are expecting this in the near future.

4th August 2022
Qatar - This is my long awaited set of six notes, which have now been replaced by the 2020 new series. The two notes of 100 and 500 riyals are printed on Hybrid material. It is believed that that these notes were released in or around 2015.

8th August 2022
The Philippines - A 1000 piso polymer new series issued on 18.04.2022. This is the first polymer banknote ever released by the central bank. The Philippines is the 7th country in the Southeast Asia region to issue a polymer banknote for circulation. According to the central bank, this is a trial run for the polymer note, and if the experience is favorable, we may see more polymer denominations to be issued later.

12th August 2022
Zimbabwe - $100 banknote dated 2020. Is this a Hybrid note?

20th August 2022
Fiji - Here, I have posted two commemorative of $7 notes both issued to celebrate the country winning gold metals for the two Olympic games in 7s Rugby game in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020(2021). These are just the normal issued notes, but put together and sold as numismatic products.

26th August 2022
Scotland, The Royal Bank of Scotland - I have added a £1 to my previous posting. This is the last print for this design, and is dated 1 May 1981.

Iraq - I have added the 10,000 dinars hybrid note printed with the year date of 2020 to my previous post. I believe these are all the notes issued with the year date of 2020.

23rd July 2022
Gibraltar - This is a new series of £5 banknote reportedly released on 01.12.2021. The size of this new note is smaller than the previous £5 note. The reason for this is to follow the standards of those banknotes issued in Great Britain. With this new series, all previous £5 banknotes issued became none legal tender on 31.01.2022.

29th July 2022
Great Britain - I have added the 5 pounds note with the signature of Chief Cashier Ms Merlyn Lowther to my earlier posting. This note was issued in 1999.

19th June 2022
Hungary - Here are the two notes issued with the year date of 2018. The two notes issued are the 500 and 1000 forint. I believe these are the only notes printed with the date of 2018.

It is believed that this new series consist of six notes, with the 10000 kwachas to be issued at a later date.

Posted here is the 200 lempiras released on 01.09.2021, celebrating the country's bicentennial of Independence 1821-2021, from Spanish rule. The two flying Ara Macao birds printed on the back of the note are just stunning. The Ara Macao is also the national bird of Honduras.

25th May 2022
Brunei - This is the reprint of the 50 ringgit 2017 commemorative polymer note issued for the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the coronation of the Sultan of Brunei (1967-2017). However, this note is printed with the year date of 2020, and technically, and in my opinion, this should not be considered as a commemorative note. However, on the back of the note, the date of 5 October 2017 is still printed on the note, together with the commemorative text - 50th Anniversary of his Majesty's Accession to the Throne.

29th May 2022
Singapore - A gold coin of $150, minted and issued in 1969, for the celebration of 150th year of the founding of Singapore 1819-1969. I believe this was the first gold coin ever minted in Singapore since its foundation.

However, the 25000 dinar notes here are printed one with the Islamic year of AH1441 and the other one with AH1442. All notes are printed on hybrid materials. Just found out tat I am still missing the 10000 dinars note, and not sure other denominations are also printed as well.

18th April 2022
New Zealand - Another annual set of five polymer notes all printed with the year date of (nd)2002. Like those previously released, only 1000 sets were minted. However, only 291 sets were sold with the rest sets all destroyed by the bank. In 2002, only the two denominations of $10 and $20 were issued for general circulations.

24th April 2022
New Zealand - This is my last set for the annual folder set issued for the year (nd)2003 polymer series. Of all the series issued between 1999 and 2015/2016, only 273 sets were sold to the public with the rest been destroyed by the bank on purpose. In my opinion, this would be the most expensive set for the secondary market. In only I knew. I hope you have one set in your collection too.

This is a limited edition with 1000 sets printed but only 491 sets were sold to the public. The rest were destroyed by the bank. These are the only banknotes issued in 2001 in New Zealand as none were issued for general circulation in that year. perhaps, you can say that only 491 banknotes issued for each denomination in 2001.

19th March 2022
Romania - A new 20 lei polymer banknote dated 01.12.2021 issued on 26.11.2021. This note was issued to bridge the gap between the current 10 and 50 lei notes in circulations.

26.03.2022
Bhutan - This is an odd note for the 500 ngultrum issued with the year date of 2020. Like many central banks around the world, banknotes in Bhutan are only issued as and when required and as such, and as such it is you will not find them in full set for a given year.

February Postings 2022

 February 2022
 新年好
Happy New Year

1st February 2022
Romania - A commemorative note of 20 lei issued on 01.12.2021, celebrating the 140th year of issuing banknote by the National Bank of Romania. This note is printed on polymer subtract material.

4th February 2022
People's Republic of China - Let the games begin! Not very often that I get new commemorative banknotes before the actuated event is celebrated or started. Here are the two commemorative notes of 20 yuan, both released on 21.12.2021 to the public. These two notes are issued to celebrate the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic games, which started today. One of the notes issued are printed on paper material whilst the other one is printed on polymer subtract. Unlike the 2008 Beijing Olympics 10 yuan, these notes are plenty available to collectors around the world.

8th February 2022
Cambodia - A Hybrid commemorative banknote of 30000 riels released on 18.01.2021, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Paris agreement that ended the Cambodia's second civil war 1978-1991. With this agreement, it officially ended the war and the return of Norodom Sihanouk as the King of Cambodia in September 1993.

15th February 2022
Kazakhstan - This is the latest 20,000 tenge commemorative Hybrid note issued on 01.12.2021 for the celebration of 30th anniversary of independence 1991-2021 from the Soviet Union. This is also the second time that a denomination of 20,000 tenge is issued. The previous 20,000 tenge was issued in 2013 for the celebration of the 20th year of the Tenge currency.

20th February 2022
Lebanon - This is a 1000 livres note printed with the year date of 2016. This is also the last print for the 1000 livres value since 2016. There is nothing special above this note, except that this is a Hybrid note and the only one that printed with the prefix of K228. The 2016 series comes with two types, paper, and Hybrid. Most collectors would not be aware of such note unless this is reported, just like the rare Canada $5 (1986/1995) and the common Sudan 1 pound (2006 AH prefix) or the Suriname $5 (2012).

26th February 2022
Mexico - A full set of 5 polymer notes of 50 pesos issued in 2021. It is always good to collect them in full set.

January Postings 2022

 January 2022
(Happy New Year)

1st January 2022
Mexico - A set of five commemorative polymer notes of 20 pesos, issued on 24.09.2021, celebrating the bicentennial of independence of Mexico 1821 to 2021.

3rd January 2022
The Bahamas - This is the last of the CRISP Evolution series of banknotes first released in 2016. This $100 note was reportedly released on 06.10.2021. This is the largest denomination for this new series. Like the $50, this $100 is also a Hybrid note and is also printed by the Canadian Bank Note Company. I now have a full set, all with the first prefix of the letter 'A'. The Bahamas dollar is considered as one of the strong currencies as it is at par with the US Dollar.

10th January 2022
Guatemala - A commemorative note of 20 quetzales celebrating the country's Bicentennial of Independence 1821-2021 from the Spanish Empire. This note is dated 2020 and was reported to be released on 27.05.2021.

16th January 2022
Uzbekistan - A 100000 so'm banknote dated 2019. I believe this is an odd issue and may not be related to those issued in 2013 and 2017 and is not related to the current series released in 2021 either as the themes are not the same.

22nd January 2022
Scotland, The Royal Bank of Scotland - Here are the two polymer notes of £10 and £20 both dated  29.01.2021. Both notes are bearing the signature of Alison Rose.

26th January 2022
South Sudan - two notes of 500 and 1000 pounds both printed with the year date of 2020. I believe these are the only two 2020 notes sighted so far.
