December Postings 2020

Merry Christmas to all my friends and visitors

This website runs on the time zone of Kiritimati. In case you do not know where Kiritimati is, it is a coral atoll and is part of the Republic of Kiribati. Kiribati has a small population of just under 124,000 people. The Republic of Kiribati was once ruled by the United Kingdom and independence was granted on 12/07/1979. The country comprises 32 atolls and has a total land area of 811 square kilometers. Kiribati was once known as the Gilbert Islands and was named by a British Captain Thomas Gilbert, who sighted the islands in 1788. Kiribati is located almost half way between Hawaii and Fiji, and Kiritimati is situated south of Hawaii. The distance between Hawaii and Kiritimati is about 2000 kilometers. Imagine that Kiritimati is further east than Samoa or Cook Islands. Prior to independence, Kiritimati was called Christmas Island Pacific Ocean. Kiribati does not have its own currency but uses Australia banknotes instead.

1st December 2020
Namibia - $30 polymer commemorative note issued on 21/03/2020 celebrating the country's 30 years of independence 1990-2020.

4th December 2020
Fiji - Two commemorative specimen notes of $2 and $2000 both issued in 2000 celebrating the millennium year 2000. The $2000 is a large size banknote.

7th December 2020
European Union - Here are the two 100 euro Hybrid notes both printed with the year date of 2019 which I have added to my previous post. These notes were printed for Slovakia (Letter E) and Italy (Letter S). I believe only six of these are issued, unless they are more that I am not aware of. All my six notes came from a very good collector friend in Europe. All these notes were 'almost' hand delivered to me from Europe. Whilst these are not rare, it is good to have them in a full set. Thank you MJ!

11th December 2020
Saudi Arabia - A 20 riyals commemorative banknote issued on 25/10/2020. This note celebrates Saudi Arabia's presidency for hosting the G20 Summit in Riyadh, the capital city on 21-22 of November 2020. To some people, the design on the back of this note may not be correct and may even consider it as an error note.

16th December 2020
Fiji - Another set of Queen Elizabeth the Second (portrait) specimen notes series issued in (nd)2002. This set comprises 5 notes from $2 to $50. The governor's signature on these notes were signed by Savenaca Narube.

20th December 2020
Australia - $20 nd2019. I have added the $20 nd2019 with the signatures of Philip Lowe (Governor) and John Arthur Fraser (Secretary To The Treasury) to my previous post of the $20 with the signatures of Philip Lowe and Philip Gaetjens. The variety of Lowe/Fraser caught many collectors by surprise. I have been told that this variety was first discovered in early January 2020. However many of these notes popped up recently for sale. Both varieties were printed with AA19 as first prefix and EA19 as the last prefix. I am not sure why the central bank has printed two varieties in a give year, especially the tenure for John Fraser ended on 31/07/2018. It looks like they printed the new $20 when John Fraser was still employed by the Treasury. The last time they did that was the governors changed over in 1996 for the $5 notes.

24th December 2020 Merry Christmas
Vanuatu - A 1000 vatu polymer commemorative folder note issued on 23/07/2020 celebrating the  country's 40th independence from the British and French (1980-2020). A thousand of these notes were sold in a folder with serial numbers ranging from #1 to #1000.

My year end total collection of banknotes, excluding duplicates, are 5747 pieces and still counting...
