December Postings 2021

December
Merry Christmas 2021

1st December 2021

SCOTLAND, THE ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND - This is a new £50 polymer note released on the 18.08.2021. This is the fourth note in the polymer series, first introduced in 2016. So far, only the Royal Bank of Scotland and the Bank of Scotland have released a £50 polymer note. It is not sure if Clydesdale Bank will do the same as well.

4th December 2021

VENEZUELA - A set of three hyperinflation notes all dated 03.09.2020. These notes were released in 2021 but not sure about the exact date(s). The one million bolivares is a commemorative note, celebrating the 200th year of the Battle of Barabobo 1821-2021.

9th December 2021

CHINA, THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC - This is the fifth series of 5 banknotes issued between 2019 and 2020. The 5 yuan note was released in 2020 whilst the rest were issued the year prior. These are reprints of the current series, first introduced in 1999. The 100 yuan was not included in this reprints as the note was updated and issued in 2015.

15th December 2021

GREAT BRITAIN - There polymer notes bearing the Chief Cashier's signature of Sarah John. Sarah John was appointed to the role in 2018. The £20 pounds was her first note while the £10 was a reprint and the £50 was release in 2021 (new issue).

19th December 2021

KINGDOM OF BHUTAN - One ngultrum, reprint 2019 Series. The previous 2013 Series was reported as a Hybrid note and for this reason, I have also posted this as a Hybrid note too, unless otherwise.

24th December 2021

ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN - Two emergency cheques of 1000000 rials, first introduced in 2010. I do not have the date of release for the second one as neither of the notes is printed with any date on it.

25th December 2021 - Merry Christmas

MALAYSIA - This is a one hundred ringgit gold coin which I have in my procession since the 1980s. This coin was issued to commemorate the first Prime Minister of Malaysia 1971. Total mintage was 100,000 pieces. I have to wait for about 15 years to get one for myself and I paid for the gold value and not at the dealer price.

26th December 2021 - Happy Boxing Day
ZIMBABWE - A new $50 banknote introduced on 06.07.2021. This note is printed with the year date of 2020. I am not sure if this is a Hybrid note, but I have also uploaded this to the Hybrid site, just in case.

November Postings 2021

 November

1st November 2021

GREAT BRITAIN - This is my second last note of my Millennium commemorative banknotes collection. This is a £20 note issued in December 1999 celebrating the beginning of a new millennium. This note was issued as a numismatic product, together with the £5 and £10 notes. Unlike my two previous notes of £5 and £10 that I have, this £20 is a premium issue and only 394 sets were made available. This note has the serial number of YR20 000099.

4th November 2021

TONGA - 1 Pa'anga ND1992 with the signatures of Fatafehi Tu'ielehake and James Cecil Crocker. This is the only note I have for this series. The rest are the 2, 5, 10 and 20 pa'anga.

12th November 2021

MACAU, BANK OF CHINA - 10 patacas commemorative note, celebrating the year of the Ox (12.02.2021 to 31.01.2022)

17th November 2021

MACAU, BANCO NACIONAL ULTRAMARINO -This is the other 10 patacas commemorative note issued to celebrate the year of the Ox.

20th November 2013

DENMARK - On the 01.11.2013, I posted a 100 krone with the signatures of Per Callesen and Lars G Sorensen. Here I have added two other notes of 50 and 200 krone with the same combination of signature. I am missing the 500 and 1000 krone values in my collection.

21st November 2021

SCOTLAND, THE ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND - A £20 polymer note dated 27.05.2019 bearing the new signature of Alison Rose. This note has the same date as the one issued with the signature of Ross Maxwell McEwan, the previous CEO of The Royal Bank of Scotland.

CUBA - Two convertible notes both dated 2017. The notes are the three and five pesos denominations. Both notes are in circulated condition (VF+ or aUNC).

October Postings 2021

October 2021

1st October 2021

SCOTLAND, BANK OF SCOTLAND - This is the latest £50 polymer note series released on 01.07.2021. The note that I have posted on my site came in a presentation folder and sold with a premium of 100% over the face value. According to the bank, all profits generated from the sale are all donated to charities.

3rd October 2021

AUSTRALIA - This is technically the second issue for the Next Generation of $100 series. This note was released to the public on 29.10.2020, together with another $100 with difference signatures and dated (nd)2019. The 2019 prints have the signatures of Philip Lowe and Philip Gaetjens, whist this note has the signatures of Philip Lowe and Steven Kennedy.

4th October 2021

HONG KONG SAR - This is the only one banknote currently issued by the government of Hong Kong. This $10 banknote was first issued in 2002, when all the three major banks in Hong Kong ceased printing the $10 note. The first three prints (July 2002; January 2003; and January 2005) were all printed on cotton based paper banknotes. In 2007, the polymer series was introduced for a trial of two years. Since then, reprints have been issued and the latest one is dated 01.07.2018. Here, I have updated my post with the latest 2018 issue.

9th October 2021

IRAQ - Here, I have posted a set of five notes all printed with the year date of 2018. Missing from this set are the 10000 and 50000 dinars, as I believe these two notes were not issued for this 2018 series. Of the five notes, the two high values of 10000 and 25000 dinars are both printed on Hybrid materials.

15th October 2021

NORTHERN IRELAND, ULSTER BANK - Posted here is the second print of the £20 polymer, first released on 14.10.2020. The first issue was dated 22.02.2019 and was supposed to be released on 20.07.2020, together with the two other commercial banks, namely the Bank of Ireland and Danske Bank. The delay was due to the error in printing the legal clause on the note and as such a new version has to be re printed. This note is dated 01.03.2021.

20th October 2021

ALGERIA - A 2000 dinars commemorative note issued to celebrate the 58th Anniversary of Independence 1962-2020. Algeria was once a colony of France until 05.07.1962. Unfortunately, independence was not achieved by peaceful mean, but through a War of Independence, which started on 01.11.1954. The French had ruled Algeria since 05.07.1830. Only one of the six national heroes depicted on the note, died naturally. The rest all ended up their lives violently. This note was released on 18.03.2021.

24 October 2021

VENEZUELA - A set of 3 notes all printed with the date of 22.01.2019. These are hyperinflation banknotes and all been printed with the same designs ob both front and back but with difference colours. The only differences are the face value of the notes. It is not sure if it is still worth the value the paper is printed on.

31st October 2021

VENEZUELA - I have added a 500 bolivares dated 15.01.2018 to my previous post of 18.07.2021. This is a cheap note and plenty in the market. I do not believe the face value of this note is worth the paper printed on now.

1st September 2021

COOK ISLANDS - A new polymer note of $3 released in early July 2021. This is an odd value note but not the first time it has issued a $3 banknote. However, this is the first time a polymer note is issued in Cook Islands.

4th September 2021

TURKMENISTAN - 2020 full set of 6 notes from 1 manat to 100 manat commemorative, celebrating the 25 Years of Neutrality 1995-2020.

8th September 2021

CUBA - 500 pesos commemorative note. This note was issued to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Foundation of Havana.

11th September 2021

EAST CARIBBEAN STATES - I have added the $5 polymer note to my previous posting. This note was released in June 2021. This note was supposed to be issued back in October 2020 but was delayed due to the current worldwide pandemic. It is better late than never.

13th September 2021

GUERNSEY - Reprints of the £1 note with the signature of Ms Bethan Haines. These notes are printed with the prefixes of Y and the new double letter prefix of AA. It is not sure when the Y prefix note was issued but I can only speculate that it could be either in 2018 or 2019. As for the AA prefix, this series was introduced this year - 2021. As the entire single letter prefix took 21 years to complete, I believe that a new catalogue references number is warranted. The prefix Y notes that I have posted here was a surprised find to me. Have a look and you will know what I mean here. Please do enjoy!

18th September 2021

RWANDA -  A set of three notes issued in 1988/1989. These are very nice notes, especially the 5000 francs. After so many years, these are still very affordable and plenty around in uncirculated condition too. You should have no problem if you are looking for a set.

25th September 2021

SINGAPORE - I have added the latest $2 polymer note printed with the tiny symbol of s solid house on the back to my previous Tharma Shanmugaratnam's signature banknotes post. Tharma Shamugaratnam was appointed to the Chairman of Monetary Authority of Singapore (Central Bank) on 01.05.2011.

28th September 2021

IRAN - A 500,000 rial note issued in 2018. This is an emergency cheque issued due to shortage of high value currency.

Latest Acquisitions
Guernsey - £1 prefixes Y and AA (nd2021);
The Royal Bank of Scotland - £50 Polymer 2020(2021)
Great Britain - £20 nd2000 Millennium commemorative

I still have plenty of banknotes to post here, but will limit myself to upload say 8-9 posts per month. Please feel free to post your related comments here. Any comments or suggestions are most welcome here. However, any unrelated comments will not be approved.

August Postings 2021

 August

Well done Leicester City Football club for winning the Community Shield 🏆 2020 (08.08.2021). Another trophy for the cabinet.

1st August 2021

MACAU, BANK OF CHINA - Posted here is the 10 patacas Year of Rat commemorative note issued on 04.05.2021. As the Year of the Rate was in 2020, this note was only issued in 2021, together with the 2021 Year of the Ox note.

3rd August 2021

SOLOMON ISLANDS - This is my last specimen note from the Solomon Islands. This is the $5 polymer note introduced on 02.05.2019. This is the second polymer banknote issued by the Central Bank of Solomon Islands.

8th August 2021

SAUDI ARABIA - This is a new 200 riyals commemorative note released on 25.04.2021. This note celebrates the the 5th Anniversary of the Launch of 'Vision 2030', first launched on 25.04.2016. This Vision 2030 is a strategic framework to reduce the country's dependence on oil, to diversify its economy, and develop it's public service sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, recreation, and tourism by 2030.

9th August 2021

IRAQ - This is a 1000 dinars commemorative note issued in 2018, celebrating the listing of World Heritage Sites of the Marshes and the monuments of southern Iraq. In 2018, other banknotes were also released, like the 250, 500, 10000 and 25000 dinars but only the 1000 dinars was issued as a commemorative note. The design is basically the same as the previous note issued but modified on the front to commemorate the special occasion.

12th August 2021

LIBYA - A commemorative note of 5 dinars issued on the 15.02.2021, celebrating the 10th Anniversary of February 17th Revolution 2011-2021. This note is printed on polymer material.

15th August 2021

MACAU, BANCO NACIONAL ULTRAMARINO - this is the other 10 patacas commemorative note issued for the year 2020, celebrating the Year of the Ox from 25.01.2020 to 11.02.2021. Whilst the amount of 10 patacas is the smallest value of banknotes issued in the territory, I believe such note is still popular amount the population, especially when come to celebrating auspicious occasions, like the new year celebrations, birthdays, weddings or even a small token of appreciation, where cash are placed in red packets aka hongbao/lai-see, given out usually from adults to children or between families. Such gesture has been practices by the Chinese for hundreds of years, and everyone welcome receiving them, no matter how such is in the package.

19th August 2021

TRANSNISTRIA - Another 1 ruble overprint commemorative note issued for the celebration of the 30th Year of Financial System of Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR). Is there an end to these kind of numismatic issues?

21st August 2021

DENMARK - Just added a 100 krone Bridge series note issued in nd2015 to my original post in 2012. This note has the combined signatures of Per Callesen and Lars G Sorensen. I can now say that I have a full set of this series, but not all printed in a same given year.

26th August 2021

TONGA - two notes issued in the 80s of half and one pa'anga. These are the only two notes I have for this series.

Latest acquisitions

03.08.2021 - Scotland Bank of Scotland £50 2021 AA series polymer new series.
09.08.2021 - Algeria 2000 dinars, Cook Islands $3 polymer, North Macedonia 10 denari;
26.08.2021 - Papua New Guinea 5 & 10 kina (nd2019/2020) polymer;

July Postings 2021

 July
(half year mark)

1st July 2021
TONGA - Posted here is a Hybrid note of 50 pa'anga. This is basically a reprint of the 2015 series but this time without the commemorative text on the back. This note also have new signatures too.

3rd July 2021
TRANSNISTRIA - Another one ruble commemorative note with an overprint of the 30th Year of Independence 1990-2020. Is there an end to this kind of commemorative issue from this country? Based on a brief history of this country, it has already issued more than 20+ commemorative notes, but most of them are with an added overprint on exist issued notes.

4th July 2021
UNITED STATES OF AMERICA - Today is 245th year of the Declaration of Independence of the United States. Most Americans would refer this day as the 4th of July holiday, rather than Independence Day.

9th July 2021
BOTSWANA - A 10 pula polymer note dated 2020. This is the second print of polymer note for Botswana. The previous 10 pula polymer note was printed with the year date of 2018. The imprinter for this new polymer note is Oberthur Fiduciaire.

15th July 2021
SOLOMON ISLANDS - Another commemorative polymer specimen note of $40 issued on 07.07.2018, celebrating the country's 40th year of Independence. This is a limited issue of 100,000 pieces with 20,000 pieces reserved for overseas collectors.

18th July 2021
VENEZUELA - A set of 8 notes all printed with the year date of 2018. Whilst I have all the denomination of notes issued, this is not considered to be a full set due to date differences. A full set for the initial issue should all have the same date of 15.01.2018. However, few were reprinted especially for those higher denominations. Here I have few reprints that made up the set.

21st July 2021
BANGLADESH - Two latest commemorative notes issued on 26.03.2021, celebrating the country's 50th year of Independence 1971-2021. Both notes are 50 taka values with one new design and the other one printed with the commemorative logo on an existing issue.

June Postings 2021

 June

1st June 2021
FRENCH PACIFIC TERRITORIES - In case you wonder, the French Pacific Territories mainly comprises French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna. Posted here are two notes of 500 and 1000 francs. These are reprints from the second series, first introduced for circulation on 20.01.2014. It is not sure when these two reprint notes were released but I believe it could be in late 2018 or early 2019.

4th June 2021
SULTANATE OF OMAN - Posted today on my site is the full set of the sixth series released on 11.01.2021. This series consists of six notes with denominations of 100 baisa to 20 rials. The 50 rials Hybrid note was issued back in July 2020 and I posted that note on 01.04.2021. Like the 50 rials 2020 issue, the 5, 10 and 20 rials are also Hybrid notes, whilst the rest are paper.

6th June 2021
HONG KONG, HSBC - A complete set of HongKong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited notes all dated 2016, and presumably all issued in the same year too. Like the previous issues, this is a reprint of the series first released in 2010. This series has now been superseded by the 2018 series. I am happy to say that I have the complete series issued between 2010 and 2016. No notes were printed or reported with the year date of 2017. More than 60% of the circulating in Hong Kong are issued by the HSBC.

11th June 2021
SOLOMON ISLANDS - Another three specimen notes from the current series. I only have the $10, $20 and $100 and I am missing the $50 piece. These were issued in 2017. The $100 is a Hybrid note.

19th June 2021
TRANSNISTRIA - Another commemorative note issued on 06.05.2020, celebrating the 75th year of the end of World War ll. Like many of the previous issues, this is also an overprint on the 1 ruble note (dated 2007) with commemorative text printed on the watermark area.

21st June 2021
CUBA - an odd note of 20 Pesos dated 2009. This note was given to me following a visit to Havana by a collector friend some years ago.

27th June 2021
CUBA - Another odd note I have from Cuba. This is a 20 pesos with the year date of 2012. Again, this note was given to me as a gift.

🏆Well Done Leicester City FC, well done🏆

1st May 2021
THE BAHAMAS - These are the currency series printed with the CRISP Evolution technology, which were issued in stages. This series first started in 2016. The remaining note of $100 is yet to be issued. The $1, $5 and $50 are all printed on Hybrid materials. It is believed that the $100 will be printed on Hybrid material too. This new series, once fully issued, will comprise of 8 notes from 50 cents to $100. It is interesting to see that The Bahamas is still retaining the 50 cents denomination in paper note. This new series of notes were printed by at least 4 imprinters, namely Oberthur Fiduciaire, De La Rue, Giesecke & Devrient and Canada Bank Not Company.

3rd May 2021
IRAN - Here are three of the emergency cheques of 500,000 rials all having the same design but different signatures. I believe these were issued between 2002 and 2013.

8th May 2021
SOLOMON ISLANDS - Another five specimen notes issued between 2005 and 2009. I am missing the $2 piece here. The signatures on these notes belonged to the Governor Rick N Houenipwela (tenure 1993-2008) and Shadrach Timothy Fanega (Secretary to the Minister of Finance).

15th May 2021
AUSTRALIA - Here I have updated the $20 Next Generation notes that I have posted on 07.11.2019. Included in this post, I have added the $5 nd2019 reprints (both first and last prefix) and also a $100 Next Generation series nd2019 with normal prefix.

21th May 2021
SOLOMON ISLANDS - Another 3 specimen notes issued from 2008 to 2009. Here I am missing the $50 value.

23rd May 2021
KAZAKHSTAN - Posted here are four notes all issued with the bank Chairman's signature Kairat Kelimbetov. Kelimbetov was the central bank's Chairman from 2013 to 2015. Here, I am missing the 5000 tenge note for this series. The 10,000 tenge note is printed on Hybrid material.

25th May 2021
AUSTRALIA - A letter that I received recently from a customer containing postage stamps issued more than 45 years ago. These stamps are not rare, but I was a bit surprised as the customer's business has nothing to do with with selling collectible stamps. Perhaps could be a collector too.

29th May 2021
SOLOMON ISLANDS - Another 5 specimen notes issued between 2009 to 2011. This is not a full set as I am missing the notes for the $5 and $50 pieces.

Footnote
15th May 2021 - Many blogger's posts were accidentally deleted by Google citing the reason of violations of Google's policies related to malware and viruses. Because of this, two of my commemorative posts of HongKong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and the Nicaragua posts were deleted. Within 24 hours, both my posts were re instated. It is not sure why this had happened, but could be just a glitch in Google's blogger systems.

April Postings 2021

 April

1st April 2021 (April Fool Day!)
SULTANATE OF OMAN - I have uploaded the 50 rials commemorative issued in July 2020, celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the rise of the Modern Omani Renaissance, and also in memory of its founder, the late Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur (b.1940-2020). The 50 rials is still the largest denomination of banknote issued in Oman. This note is printed on Hybrid material. Omani rial is the third strongest current in the world, only ranked behind the Kuwaiti and the Bahraini dinars.

2nd April 2021 (Happy Easter)
OLD CHINESE COMBINATION PADLOCK - I have uploaded an old Chinese combination padlock. I have no idea when this was made or if this was made for collectors or for practical use. However, this lock was featured on one of the banknotes issued by the Hong Kong Standard Chartered Bank (Series 2010) on the back of a $50. This lock that I have is still in good working condition. There are plenty of such locks on sale but I believe many of these are more for decorative purposes only. Not many people are actually using them nowadays anymore. If you are also a collector, please feel free to share your story with me. Thanks.

4th April 2021 (Happy Easter Sunday)
HONG KONG, BANK OF CHINA - This is the only circulating set of notes issued in Hong Kong printed with the year 2015. Here I have posted a full set of 5 notes, from $20 to $1000. The other two commercial banks did not issue any banknotes in 2015. Usually when one bank issued banknotes for circulation, the other two would do the same unless the notes are for commemorative purposes. However, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation issued a $150 commemorative banknote in 2015 celebrating the bank 150th Anniversary. This note was issued at a premium and therefore not meant to be for public circulation. With this Bank of China 2015 set, I can now say that I have a complete set of the 2010 series in my collection. 😊

10th April 2021
SOLOMON ISLANDS - Three specimen notes of the C series of $10, $20 and $50 all issued in 1996. A full set consists of 5 notes. I am missing the $2 and $5 notes both introduced in 1997. The governor's signature printed on these notes belonged to Rick N Houenipwela (tenure 1993-2008) and Director Warren Paia. The designs on these notes are actually the same as those issued in 1986, except with new signatures and the serial numbers are printed in ascending format. This series later replaced by the 2006 series. More to come....

17th April 2021
SOLOMON ISLANDS - Another two specimen notes from the Solomon Islands; $2 polymer and $50 paper. Both notes were issued in 2002. The $2 was issued to celebrate the Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the Central Bank of Solomon Islands (1976-2001) and the other one is the $50 printed with a prefix of 1/25. I have listed them as both commemorative notes, even the $50 paper note did not have any commemorative text printed on it. I did that solely because of the prefix on the note and this was the only prefix issued in 2001. Please read my comment as to why I considered this $50 as a commemorative note. More to come later...

23rd April 2021
TONGA - I have added two notes of 10 and 50 pa'anga to the 20 pa'anga that I posted earlier. These are reprint from the 2009 series and the last issues before the introduction of the 2015 series. January Postings 2021

Happy New Year 2021

1st January 2021
Australia - $100 polymer note printed with (nd)2017. This is the ninth print of the $100 first generation of polymer note and the last print since it was first introduced in 1996. This note has since been replaced by the Next Generation of polymer series. Here I have posted the first and last prefix of this series. This is the only denomination of note printed for the first polymer series in 2017.

Fiji - Another full set of specimen banknotes all issued in 2007. This is the last series of Fijian banknotes that depict a British monarch, despite the country became a republic in 1987. This full set comprise of 6 notes all printed on paper banknotes except that the $100 is printed on Hybrid material. This $100 note is the only Hybrid banknote ever issued in Fiji. I believe this is the third series of banknotes issued since gaining independence in 1970 (exclude commemorative issues).

10th January 2020
Zimbabwe - Here are the two notes both issued in June 2020 of $10 and $20. I believe these are Hybrid notes and were printed by the German company, Giesecke & Devrient (G&D).

12th January 2021
Bangladesh - Two commemorative notes of 100 and 200 taka released on On the 17/03/2020,  commemorating the centenary birth of its founding father the late Bangabandhu Sheik Mujibur Rahman (a.k.a Sheik Mujib) was the first Prime Minister/President following the end of a civil war with Pakistan in late 1971. Bangladesh was once part of Pakistan and was known as East Pakistan following gaining independence from the British in 1947.

Fiji - Another set of five specimen notes issued in 2012. The $5 is a polymer note and the rest are paper banknotes. The $100 has been reverted to paper and not hybrid as per the 2007 issue.

24th January 2021
Fiji - This is a specimen commemorative note of $7 issued in 2017 celebrating Fiji winning the Rugby Sevens Gold medal in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Brazil Olympics games. The denomination is unique as per the game won and the word SPECIMEN is perforated and not printed. This note is printed by the French company, Oberthur Fiduciaire.

26th January 2021
Singapore - I have added two notes from Singapore - $5 and $100. The $5 is a polymer note printed with a solid symbol star on the back and the $100 note is printed with a solid house symbol on the back. It appears that the $5 denomination is not a very popular note in Singapore. Since the first issue of the $5 polymer note in 2007, it has only been reprinted five times in - nd2010 [■], nd2013 [▲▲], nd2014 [▲], nd2018 [◆] and nd2020 [solid ★]; whilst both the $2 and $10 have been reprinted at least 13 times.

Fiji - This is my final specimen polymer commemorative note of $50 issued in 2020 celebrating Fiji's 50th Year of Independence 1970-2020. It is not sure how many pieces were printed but if one had to guess, I would say it would be 500 pieces or even much less, say 200 to 300 pieces. It is also not sure if the central bank has retained any for their archive for future references.
