May 2010 Postings

I spent some of my spare time surfing the net looking for banknotes sites to see what other collectors are up to. On many occasions, I see collectors commenting that they intend to collect at least one banknote from all nations including past and present. This is indeed what I was once told myself that I would do, but until now I have yet to complete this task. My reason is simple. Some of these old notes are just a bit too expensive to get, and even if you can find them and in most cases they are in poor condition. If you are one of those collectors, here are some of the notes that you might find it a bit hard to find. These are usually old notes from countries that are no longer exist or has gained independence and changed it’s name since then; -

“Andorra, Azores, Belgian Congo, Bohemia & Moravia, British Guiana, British Honduras, Monaco, British North Borneo, British West Africa, China Imperial, Curacao, Danzig, French India, French Oceania, French Sudan, German East Africa, German New Guinea, German South West Africa, Gilbert & Ellice Islands, Greenland, Guadeloupe, Hejaz, Isle of France and of Bourbon, Italian East Africa, Italian Somaliland, Kiau Chau, Leeward Islands, Madeira Islands, Martinique, Memal, Montenegro, Netherlands New Guinea, Newfoundland, Palestine, Panama, Portuguese Guinea, Portuguese India, Reunion, Rhodesia & Nyasaland, Saar, Saint Lucia, French West Africa, Southern Rhodesia, Tangier, Tannu-Tuva, Turks & Caicos Islands and Zanzibar.”

From the above, you can see that I am still missing at least 47 notes from these nations. Few of the notes mentioned are still very affordable but some are quite impossible to find either. If you are one of those who has successfully achieved this task, congratulations to you. You have done well. For me, as I still have such a long way to go, most likely is that I will not achieve this task, and for that, I will just continue to do what I do best, is to get current issues of banknotes in complete set if possible.

Another month gone, and here are my new additions.

May 22, 2010
Clydesdale Bank Scotland - 10 Pounds note with special NAB prefix dated 1.5.1997 issued to commemorate the first 10 years of the bank under the ownership/management of the National Australia Bank Group (1987 to 1997). The National Australia Bank (NAB) Head Office is based in Melbourne Australia

Nigeria - 20 Naira 2007 polymer with 6 digits serial number. A gift from a good collector friend from South Korea. Thanks Jason, for the gift.

Sources from Malaysia have informed me that the Central Bank is planning to release a new RM1 note in polymer. Not sure of the design yet.

Chile - 10000 Pesos dated 2009.
Chile - 2008 prints from 1000 to 20000 Pesos except the 2000 Pesos polymer (see below)

May 1, 2010
Chile - 2000 Pesos 2008 polymer. The first polymer note was printed in 2004. In 2007 a reprint was released with new signature. This latest note issued also see a difference (President) signature too.

Jamaica - $50, $100, $500 and $1000 dated between 2007 and 2008. This is a rather very affortable set which I bought for my world banknotes collection. All notes are printed by De la Rue, including the $5,000 hybrid note I posted last month on 15.04.2010.

Singapore - I have posted the following notes; -
$2 & $10 - Polymer notes printed with one dot on the back;
$2 & $10 - Polymer notes printed with two dots on the back;
$50 & $100 - one dot printed on the back
$100 - two dots printed on the back.

The design of these notes are the same from the previous issues except the dot. I am not sure if the $100 is the same as the previous note or has any minor changes since it was first issued on 9.9.1999. Needless to say, if any $100 issued after 9.9.1999 till this one with a dot, then I don't have them. I am also wondering as to why the year date was not used instead of a dot. It appears that the current $5 note has not been sported with any dot yet. However the $1,000 note has been issued with triangles instead of dots.

  1. Hm, I am trying to be different.

    I do not want to collect from every country in the world but only collect what I like.
