April Postings 2011

Show and TellA rather nice surprise for myself when I got this note. This is, I believe, is the last of the Vanuatu paper note issued (together with the Vt1,000) and signed by Odo Tevi and Sela Molisa. Once the current stock is depleted (for this note and the rest of the paper banknotes), it will commence releasing polymer notes which already printed for all denominations, including the new denomination of Vt2000. The above is also the third Vt5,000 printed since independence from the British and French in 1980. I was delighted to get this low serial number of '88', and I believe the letters 'BB' is also the first prefix for this signatures variety. Vanuatu has a habit of printing with double matching letter prefixes such as AA, BB, CC, DD etc for all notes issued.

Iran - This is a 200 Rials (P136) with overprint on the front. Since I do not read Persian, I have no idea what it says. I do not believe this note is listed on SCWPM, but whoever did the overprint, I have a feeling that this may not have been sanctioned by the Central Bank either. Could this be part of a promotional thingy, commemorating a historical event or perhaps even a propaganda matter. If any readers out there can explain what the meaning of those overprints are, can you please let me know? BTW, this is a very cheap note.

April 22, 2011 (Easter Friday)

Hi paperbanknotes,
Nice banknote. The double B looks like 88 which make the serial numbers look like radar numbers.
Thanks alot for sharing, paperbanknotes :)
